It was a great honour to launch Lucy Loves Nature: The Search for the Mysterious Potoo at a special event at the Official Residence of Canada in San José, Costa Rica, as part of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations
between Canada and Costa Rica.

We sincerely thank the Embassy of Canada team for this meaningful opportunity to highlight Canadian–Costa Rican collaboration. We were honoured by the presence of the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs from Costa Rica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Solano, along with representatives from the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE),
and key partners committed to environmental education, gender equity, and biodiversity conservation.

Written by Canadian Founder and Director of Finca Cántaros Environmental Association, Lilly Briggs, the book sits at the intersection of all the organization’s pillars of work. The story follows Lucy, a young girl who loves nature, especially the birds of Costa Rica. As she walks through the forest searching for a particular species, she learns about the importance of conserving habitat alongside her friend “Yiggy,” the Clay-colored Thrush — Costa Rica’s national bird. Lucy Loves Nature highlights the vital role of girls and women in science and conservation.

The book was illustrated by talented Costa Rican illustrator Vicky Ramos.

Special thanks to Dana Cryderman (left in second photo), Political Counsellor at the Canadian Embassy in San José, Costa Rica, for the idea and planning for this event.

You can order this book, in both English and Spanish, on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, and Barnes and Noble! All proceeds go to supporting the environmental education work of Finca Cántaros. For those purchasing a hardcover version directly through the author, charitable tax receipts are available.
